Voice profile
Hi, I’m Richard, a professional British Voice Actor and Voice Over Artist. It’s who I am and I can’t imagine me doing anything else – and believe me, I’ve tried!
I am passionate about using my voice to inject energy, true emotion and life into the written word, whether that’s for a video game, a children’s book, a cartoon character, a commercial or corporate message. For me voice acting is truth, it’s being vulnerable to the moment, it’s having the freedom and courage to react instinctively regardless of consequence.
I love British regional accents from Scotland to Cornwall, which I guess is a bye product of being born in Edinburgh and then pretty much living all over the UK ever since; accents were distilled into me by some sort of linguistic osmosis. So basically if you need a British male voice for your project – you’ve found it.
I’ve been described as a natural communicator, having a rich, friendly, believable and dependable RP voice. Age range 55-65. Assured, educated and conversational – perfect for documentaries, commercials, e-learning and web content. But then there’s the flip side, the wild side, a catalogue of colourful character voices for gaming, animation and children's books.
I’m a great believer in continuous professional development, attending workshops and networking with my peers, keeping me up to speed with the ever changing trends in voice work.
From my custom built voiceover studio, I specialise in broadcast quality, fast turn-a-round audio and endeavour to deliver finished files within 24 hours; and because it’s my studio, I have the flexibility to work globally, regardless of time zones. If a client wants to listen in on a session, live direct me or remotely record a session, I have Source Connect, CleanFeed, Skype and Zoom.
My studio is a fully floating room within a room. The floor is floated on dense rubber and between each join there is a layer of neoprene, to prevent the transmission of sound vibrations. This together with the air space between the inner and outer rooms - decoupling - helps to prevent sound penetration from the outside. The door, floor, walls and ceiling are all constructed using 2 layers of acoustic fibre board stuffed with 100mm of acoustic rock wool or Owens Corning, as it’s called in the USA. None of the walls are parallel and the ceiling is at a 30 degree angle, preventing resonant frequencies. The window is quadruple glazed and angled, so any reflective sound bounces up as opposed to back at the mic.
